Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Coup

The following morning at eight o’clock, the executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor of the Vance Logistics tower was in turmoil.
Julian sat at the head of the mahogany conference table, his tie loosened, dark shadows under his eyes. He hadn't slept a wink. Beside him, his corporate attorney, Richard, was frantically rifling through contracts. Evelyn was sitting in the corner, clutching her designer handbag as if it were a life preserver.
""Can’t we file an emergency injunction?"" Evelyn hissed. ""She’s his wife! Spousal assets are shared! She can’t just seize his company!""
""Shut up, Evelyn,"" Julian snapped, slamming his palms on the table. ""Richard, tell me we have a defense.""
Richard shook his head grimly. ""The term sheet was airtight, Julian. You signed it when the firm was about to go bankrupt three years ago. Vanguard Horizon loaned you twelve million dollars. The collateral was your personal equity. Furthermore, the video footage submitted to our compliance office this morning clearly shows..."" Richard trailed off, looking uncomfortable.
""It was an argument between husband and wife!"" Julian shouted. ""It was private!""
""The law doesn't distinguish between boardroom ethics and bedroom violence when your contract specifically stipulates personal character clauses,"" Richard countered.
The double doors clicked open.
Clara entered, flanked by Marcus and a team of three high-powered corporate litigators. She wore a sharp charcoal pantsuit, her hair pulled back into an immaculate chignon. Her demeanor was completely transformed—gone was the soft-spoken woman who kept dinner warm and endured snide remarks at family dinners.
""Good morning, gentlemen,"" Clara said, taking the seat directly opposite Julian.
Julian stood up immediately, his hands shaking. ""Clara, please. We can talk about this. We’re partners. We built this life together.""
""You built your life on my silence, Julian,"" Clara replied evenly, folding her hands over an empty folder. ""Yesterday, you told me your money was yours, and mine was mine. Today, I am simply collecting what is mine.""
Marcus placed a tablet in front of Julian. ""The emergency board meeting has reached a quorum. With Vanguard exercising its default voting rights, Julian Vance is formally stripped of the Chief Executive Officer position, effective immediately.""
""You can't kick me out of my own building!"" Julian roared.
May you like
""It's not your building,"" Clara said coldly. ""Mercer Capital bought the commercial lease last year. And you have five minutes to vacate the premises.""
Before Julian could scream another threat, the boardroom door opened again. Two uniform police officers walked in.
