Chapter 15 - Where the Tide Cleans the ShoreOn David’s fifth birthday, Clara took him to the historic lighthouse overlooking the bay. The wind was crisp, blowing clean off the Atlantic.

"Mom," David asked, holding her hand as they looked out over the vast expanse of blue water, "did my father build big things?"

Clara knelt beside him, brushing his dark hair from his forehead.

"He built the most important thing a person can build," Clara said softly.

"A ship?"

"No," Clara smiled, wrapping her arms around him. "He built a promise that truth matters more than gold. And that no matter how deep the shadows get, the morning always comes for those who walk in the light."

David hugged her neck tightly, his eyes bright with wonder as the lighthouse beam swept across the ocean, guiding every wandering ship safely back home.
