Chapter 4 - The Cell of HubrisCounty Holding Facility was devoid of silk and chandeliers. Victoria sat across the scratched acrylic divider, clad in an orange jumpsuit that clashed violently with her fair skin. Her makeup was gone, revealing the sharp, anxious lines around her mouth.

Her attorney, Arthur Pendelton, sat beside her, his briefcase closed.

"Bail was denied," Arthur stated bluntly. "The U.S. Attorney cited the Greek passport found in your safe and the four million dollars wired to an unindexed account in Cyprus yesterday morning."

"I am a Vance!" Victoria hissed, pressing both palms against the glass. "Eleanor has thirty percent of the board voting shares! Tell her to call the governor!"

"Your grandmother surrendered her voting proxy to Marcus two hours ago," Arthur said, his voice stripped of deference. "Furthermore, the security cameras from the foyer weren't disabled as you thought. Clara had replaced the cloud hub three weeks ago. The push is on forty-eight frames per second, 4K digital video. The assault charge will stick."

Victoria slumped back against the metal chair, the cold reality settling into her chest. The empire built on manipulation had not simply fallen; it had dissolved in plain daylight.
