Chapter 9 - The Trial of SilenceFederal District Court, Southern District of New York. The courtroom was packed with journalists, industry titans, and curious onlookers eager to watch the fall of high society.

Victoria sat at the defense table, wearing a tailored navy suit provided by her legal team. Her hair was pulled into a neat twist, but her hollow cheeks and darting eyes betrayed her composure.

The prosecution presented the state’s key witness: Clara Vance.

Clara took the stand in a simple dark dress, her demeanor calm and unshakeable. For three hours, she methodically detailed the forged shipping manifests, the offshore money laundering, and the precise moment Victoria shoved her down the mezzanine stairs.

"Did the defendant say anything to you during the incident?" the prosecutor asked.

Clara looked directly at Victoria across the courtroom. "She told me I was taking what belonged to her. But nothing in that house ever truly belonged to her. It was all borrowed from lies."

Victoria did not look up. Her pen clicked repeatedly against the legal pad until her lawyer gently took it from her hand.
