Chapter 6 - The Uninvited ApologyJulian entered the office looking disheveled. His midnight-blue wedding tuxedo had been replaced by a wrinkled business suit. The smug confidence he wore at the manor had vanished completely.

"Claire," he choked out, walking toward her desk. "You ruined Sophia’s life. The Vances are cutting me off. The partners at my firm are asking why our credit line was frozen this morning. How could you do this to your own brother?"
Claire didn't flinch. "Did you check on Toby once, Julian?"
Julian blinked, thrown off balance. "What?"
"My son was struck in the face by a woman twice his size. He cried himself to sleep. Did you call once to ask if your nephew was alright?"

"He's a kid, Claire! He ruined a three-thousand-dollar display! It was a misunderstanding!"
"It was an assault," Claire said, standing tall. "You traded your family's dignity for an invitation into a country club that treats you like a servant. You didn't protect your nephew because you were too busy groveling for Evelyn’s approval."
