Chapter 1 - The Banquet of Scorn

The polished marble floor of the grand ballroom mirrored a dozen blinding phone flashes. Six-year-old Lily sat soaked in her ruined silk flower-girl gown, icy water dripping from her blonde bangs down her flushed cheeks. Beside her, the metal bucket gave a hollow clang as Beatrice Sterling, matriarch of high society, set it down with disdainful poise.

Elena pulled her trembling daughter into the warm folds of her champagne-gold gown. Her pulse hammered against her temples as she shielded Lily’s face from the relentless circle of recording lenses. High-society elites, all dressed in black ties and designer silks, whispered and sneered. To them, a child’s public humiliation was mere entertainment.

"She spilled juice on my imported carpet," Beatrice declared smoothly, smoothing her glittering emerald gown. "A servant’s brat must learn her place early, Elena. Even if my son was foolish enough to marry you, your bloodline remains common."

Elena slowly stood up, wrapping her damp child securely against her hip. She felt no shame, only cold, crystallized rage. She searched the ring of spectators and found Richard, her husband of seven years. He stood paralyzed in his designer tuxedo, his gaze shifting nervously between his imperious mother and his soaked daughter.

"Richard," Elena said, her voice cutting through the room's low hum. "Look at your daughter. Are you going to say something?"

Richard cleared his throat, avoiding Lily’s tearful eyes. "Elena, don't make a scene. Mother was only... disciplining her. Just take Lily to the restroom and apologize."

The betrayal struck harder than the ice water. Elena stared at the man she once trusted, seeing only a cowardly puppet. She tightened her grip on Lily and took a step toward Beatrice. The older woman smirked, confident in her untouchable status.

"You think your wealth makes you a queen, Beatrice," Elena whispered, her voice low enough that only the front row heard. "You think you own everything in this room. But you have forgotten who built this empire."

Beatrice scoffed, waving a dismissive, manicured hand. "Get out of my gala, Elena. Tomorrow morning, Richard files for divorce. You will leave with nothing."

Elena did not cry. Instead, she straightened her posture and reached into her evening clutch. She pulled out a small black USB drive and turned it between her fingers.

Beatrice’s dismissive smile flickered. Her eyes fixed on the metal drive, and the color began to drain from her powdered cheeks.

"You really shouldn't have done that to my child," Elena murmured, stepping past her husband without a second glance. As she reached the double oak doors, her phone vibrated in her pocket with an incoming call labeled General Counsel - Sovereign Trust.

Elena answered, pressing the phone to her ear. "Execute Protocol Zero," she ordered. "Every asset. Every holding. Bleed them dry."
