Chapter 15 - The Lioness Awakens

Elena stood motionless on the vibrant green lawn, the cool breeze catching the hem of her cardigan. The laughter of her daughter and the playful barking of the puppy faded into the background as she stared at the glowing letters on the screen.

He wasn't working alone, Elena. The real masters are coming for the trust.

She didn't flinch. She didn't let panic creep into her bones. The woman who had dismantled a century-old dynasty in forty-eight hours felt no fear—only the cold, calculating instinct of an apex predator guarding her cub.

She walked casually back to the patio table where Marcus was still standing, admiring the valley view.

"Marcus," she said calmly, slipping the phone onto the glass surface between them. "Take a look at this."

Marcus leaned down, his eyes scanning the message. His posture immediately shifted, his jaw clenching as his protective instincts flared back to life. "Victor is trying to play psychological games from his cell. He wants you looking over your shoulder."

"Victor is a beaten dog, Marcus," Elena said, her voice steady and razor-sharp. "He has no leverage left to gain by lying. He's warning me because whoever these people are, they abandoned him to rot in federal prison."

Marcus picked up the encrypted handset from his pocket. "I’ll double the perimeter security around the estate. Triple the air surveillance grids. We can bring in two additional private tactical teams from our European branch."

"No," Elena said, raising a hand to stop him. "Passive defense is how Victor breached our perimeter the first time. If someone out there believes they can lay a finger on my daughter or touch the foundation we built, I will not wait for them to knock on my gate."

She turned her gaze toward the horizon, where storm clouds were gathering far over the distant mountains.

"Find out who cleared Victor's black-budget shipments through the international ports over the last seven years," Elena ordered, every syllable ringing with unyielding authority. "Trace the shadow accounts that even the Black Ledger couldn't identify. Find the syndicate behind the Sterling family’s rise."

"And when we find them?" Marcus asked, his eyes gleaming with fierce loyalty.

Elena looked back toward the lawn, where Lily was running toward her, holding a freshly picked dandelion with a bright, wide smile. Elena knelt down, catching the little girl in her arms, pressing a loving kiss against her warm forehead.

"When we find them," Elena whispered, her eyes turning to cold steel as she looked past Lily’s shoulder toward the gathering storm, "we remind them why the world feared Sovereign Trust in the first place."
