Chapter 4 - The Vows Unspoken

Julian unpinned the white gardenia boutonnière from his lapel. He let it drop onto the polished marble floor.

"Get out, Vanessa," Julian said calmly.

"You wouldn't dare," she breathed, her face draining of color. "Your family name—"

"My family is standing behind me," Julian cut in, stepping directly between Vanessa and Lily. "The catering staff will pack your things from the bridal suite. If you ever contact Lily, or attempt to file these fraudulent petitions, I will hand Michael’s original probate records directly to the district attorney. My brother wasn’t foolish; he kept digital backups you clearly never found."

Vanessa’s mouth opened, but no words came out. The realization that her gamble had collapsed washed over her in a wave of bitter fury. Gathering her silk train with both hands, she turned on her heel, the sound of her stilettos echoing aggressively off the walls as she stormed toward the service exit.

Julian exhaled a breath he felt he’d been holding for months. The grand wedding march began to play from the organ in the main sanctuary, unaware of the quiet revolution in the hall.

Julian knelt once more before Lily. He gently smoothed down her rumpled curls. "Hey. It’s over. No one is sending you anywhere."

Lily looked down at his empty lapel. "Are you mad at me, Uncle Julian?"

"Never," Julian smiled, pulling her into an embrace so fierce it swallowed the grand hall whole. "I just made the easiest decision of my life."
