Chapter 7 - The Cornered PredatorIn a high-rise suite three blocks away, Chloe hurled a crystal tumbler against the marble fireplace. It shattered into a thousand glittering shards, amber bourbon dripping down the pale stone.

"He confessed?" she screamed into her phone. "Who confesses to a secondary offering violation when they aren't even being questioned?!"
Her legal counsel’s voice on the speakerphone was measured, devoid of the deference she usually commanded. "He didn't just confess, Chloe. He submitted the full communication logs, including the correspondences from your father’s estate that implicate your trust in the initial tax shelter scheme. He blew up the entire bridge while both of you were standing on it."
Chloe’s breathing came in ragged gasps. "Fix it. Use the trusts."
"We can't," the lawyer replied bluntly. "The federal monitor has issued an injunction. All accounts tied to the Sterling-Vance acquisition are locked. And Chloe... there's the matter of the domestic incident report filed by the attending physician at Memorial Hospital last night."
Chloe froze, her phone trembling in her hand. "What incident?"
"The fall Mrs. Sterling suffered. It’s been flagged as an assault investigation. If Elena Sterling gives a formal statement, you won't just be dealing with financial litigation. You will be facing felony charges."

The silence in the opulent suite grew suffocating. For the first time in her life, Chloe looked around the vast, empty room and felt the walls closing in. Money had always been a shield, a weapon, and an apology. Now, stripped of its leverage, it was just numbers on an inaccessible screen.
She looked at her hands—manicured, perfect, and suddenly utterly powerless.
