Chapter 15 - The Unbroken LightThe late afternoon sun cast long, golden reflections across the plaza of Vanguard Holdings. The heavy brass revolving doors spun smoothly as employees walked out, laughing, talking about evening plans with their families, unburdened by fear or dread.

Clara stood by the edge of the fountain, holding little Grace by her hands as the child took small, wobbly steps across the smooth stone. Grace let out a burst of toddler laughter, delighted by the splashing water.

A familiar figure approached, pushing a yellow maintenance cart along the perimeter to clean the decorative planters. It was a new custodian—a young man who smiled politely and said, "Good evening, Mrs. Hayes. Hello, little Grace!"

"Good evening, Marcus," Clara smiled warmly, taking a moment to ask about his evening classes and his family.

Clara looked up toward the forty-second floor, where the glass windows reflected the vast, open sky. A year ago, that building had been a prison of greed and cruelty. Today, it stood as a sanctuary—a testament to the truth that cruelty may shout and throw its weight around for an hour, but compassion, justice, and the quiet dignity of human life will always have the final word.

"Look at the light, my darling," Clara whispered, stepping forward into the warmth of the evening. "We made it home."
