Chapter 5 - The First BreathThe open office was transformed into a field obstetrics ward. Portable screens enclosed Clara’s cubicle, while Elena held one of Clara’s hands and coached her breathing alongside the medic.

Outside the screen, Frank stood vigil. Arthur leaned against a filing cabinet, sweat breaking out across his forehead, desperately thumbing through his phone until he realized all mobile cellular towers and internal Wi-Fi routers on the floor had been scrambled by Ward’s technical team.

"You can't do this," Arthur whispered, voice cracking. "I have rights. My contract with Vanguard protects me from arbitrary removal. My uncle sits on the board!"

"Your uncle sold his shares six months ago, Arthur," Frank remarked without turning around. "To me. When rumors surfaced that the company was bleeding talent through harassment, coercion, and forced non-disclosure agreements, I decided to see the rot firsthand. I didn't come here as a tycoon with an entourage. I took the uniform of the lowest-paid person in the building because a man’s true character is revealed solely by how he treats those he believes cannot fight back."

A sharp cry cut through the tension—not a cry of pain, but the fierce, miraculous wail of new life.

Inside the enclosure, Clara wept, tears of relief pooling into her hair. The paramedic gently placed a newborn girl, wrapped in a sterile blue blanket, directly onto Clara's chest.

"A daughter, Clara," Elena whispered, laughing through her own tears. "She’s beautiful. She's strong, just like her mother."

Frank closed his eyes for a second, breathing out a quiet prayer of gratitude. The heavy, suffocating atmosphere that Arthur had cultivated for years had been irrevocably broken by the sound of a child taking her first breath.
