Chapter 13 - The True Heir Revealed

Before the private mercenaries could raise their tactical rifles, Julian moved with blinding speed. He kicked the heavy mahogany credenza near the elevator doors, sending it crashing into the front two guards, knocking their weapons aside.
""Hold your fire!"" a clear, ringing voice echoed through the high-ceilinged room.
Elena stepped past Julian, walking directly into the center of the boardroom. She didn't flinch, didn't cower, and didn't back down. The elegance of her midnight-blue gown and the sheer regal composure of her posture froze the entire room in collective disbelief.
""If you fire a single round,"" Elena said, her voice amplified across the room, ""the entire world will watch Arthur Sterling execute his own blood niece on the international stock exchange feed.""
She pointed toward the massive presentation screen on the wall. Behind the scenes, Julian’s hacker contact had hijacked the building’s internal broadcast system. The red recording lights on the executive video conferencing cameras blinked to life. Across the globe, millions of financial monitors and news networks cut from morning commercials to the live broadcast inside the Sterling boardroom.
""You insolent little tramp!"" Arthur bellowed, slamming his fists onto the mahogany table. ""Turn those cameras off! Miller, shut down the power!""
""The servers are rerouted off-site, Arthur,"" Julian said, stepping up beside Elena, his presence towering and invincible. ""There is no off switch.""
Elena reached up and unclasped the joined silver pendant from her neck. She held it high for the cameras and the stunned board members to see.
""This is the Sterling Rose,"" Elena announced, her voice resonating with unbroken authority. ""The original charter of this corporation, drafted seventy years ago, dictates that ownership of the core family trust follows this seal. For twenty years, Lord Arthur Sterling kept my mother, Clara, in hiding, and imprisoned his own wife in an underground facility beneath the manor to steal this seat.""
A collective gasp swept through the board members. Several elderly directors stood up, staring at the pendant with wide, horrified eyes.
""That's... that's Clara’s crest,"" one director stammered, adjusting his glasses. ""The true majority shareholder.""
""It's a forgery!"" Victoria shrieked from the corner, her face twisted in desperation. ""Arthur, do something! Call the police!""
May you like
""The police are already downstairs, Victoria,"" Julian said coldly, taking a sealed legal dossier from his inner coat pocket and slamming it onto the glass table. ""Along with federal agents holding warrants for embezzlement, false imprisonment, attempted murder, and corporate treason.""
Arthur’s face turned an ugly shade of purple. Seeing his empire crumbling in seconds, his sanity snapped. He reached into his coat, pulled out a concealed snub-nosed revolver, and aimed it straight at Elena’s heart.
