Chapter 14 - Reckoning in the Smoke

The courtyard dissolved into a chaotic maze of white smoke and flashing muzzle-flashes. Through the dense fog, he moved with lethal efficiency, neutralizing Dean's remaining guards one by one with silent, practiced takedowns that left no room for error. Dean stumbled backward through the haze, coughing violently, his corporate armor completely stripped away, leaving only a desperate, cornered animal. Suddenly, a heavy hand grabbed Dean by the collar of his expensive suit, slamming him hard against the side of the concrete loading bay wall. Dean gasped for air as a knife blade pressed coldly against his throat, looking up to see the cold, unyielding eyes of the man holding him. ""This is for Julian,"" he whispered, his voice dangerously quiet. Clara stepped out from the shadows behind them, holding the manila envelope and the downloaded flash drive high, her posture upright and completely devoid of fear. ""And this is for every life you destroyed,"" Clara added, her voice echoing clearly across the quiet dock. Sirens began wailing in the distance—federal marshals and cybercrime units alerted by the automated data drop they had triggered from the server room. Dean’s eyes widened in sheer horror as he realized his empire had officially collapsed, and no amount of money could buy him out of this cell. With a sharp shove, he released Dean, letting the broken billionaire slide helplessly down to the wet pavement in handcuffs.
