Chapter 9 - The Golden Heir

Julian entered the small, brightly lit sanctuary, his towering presence filling the room. Dr. Chen and the nurses stepped aside respectfully.
Harper lay on the bed, pale, exhausted, and bathed in sweat, but her face was illuminated with an ethereal, radiant grace. Wrapped in a soft, clean white towel against her chest was a tiny, wriggling infant with a shock of dark hair and translucent, delicate skin.
Julian approached the bed as if approaching an altar. He fell to his knees beside Harper, his large frame suddenly looking humble.
""Harper..."" he whispered, his voice completely breaking.
""Look at him, Julian,"" Harper said softly, her thumb gently stroking the baby's tiny cheek. A weak, tearful smile touched her lips. ""He has your eyes. Dark and fierce.""
Julian reached out a trembling, blood-stained finger. He hesitated, looking at his grime-covered skin, terrified of dirtying the pristine perfection of the child. But Harper reached out with her other hand, catching his wrist and gently guiding his index finger into the baby’s tiny palm.
Instantly, the newborn’s miniature fingers curled tightly around Julian’s massive finger.
A silent tear slipped down Julian’s cheek, tracking through the soot on his skin. In all his years of accumulating wealth, vanquishing enemies, and conquering industries, he had never felt a power greater than the grip of this fragile child.
""What is his name?"" Julian asked quietly, his voice thick with emotion.
""Alexander,"" Harper answered, looking into Julian’s eyes with absolute trust. ""Alexander Bell.""
""Alexander,"" Julian repeated, bowing his head until his lips touched the baby's soft forehead, inhaling the sweet, pure scent of milk and new life. ""I swear to you, Alexander, nothing will ever harm you. As long as I draw breath, you are safe.""
Dr. Chen stepped forward quietly, holding an emergency satchel. ""Julian, we need to move them immediately. Marcus may be unconscious, but Valenti's secondary units will realize their extraction team failed within twenty minutes. If they surround the building with heavy artillery, not even your security forces can guarantee safety.""
Julian stood up, wiping his face, the fierce commander instantly returning. ""Where is the private medical helicopter?""
""Waiting on the secondary roof pad behind the water towers,"" Dr. Chen replied. ""It’s off the grid. Unregistered.""

Julian nodded grimly. ""Pack the necessary medical supplies. Vance will escort you and the nurses. I will carry Harper and the boy.""
As Julian leaned down to wrap Harper securely in a warm thermal blanket, his radio buzzed again with Vance’s panicked voice: ""Boss! We’ve got an incoming transmission on the emergency frequency. It’s Don Valenti himself. He wants to speak to you.""
