Chapter 6 - Confrontation in the Corridor

The heavy study door swung open, but it wasn't Victor who stood in the frame. It was Marcus, the head of the estate’s tactical security detail, his hand resting casually on his holster. His eyes scanned the dimly lit study before locking onto Elena, who stood frozen beside the desk. A cruel, knowing smirk crossed Marcus’s face. “Well, well. The ghost of the past has finally decided to walk back into the lion’s den,” Marcus murmured, stepping into the room and blocking Elena’s only escape route. Elena’s heart hammered against her ribs as she backed away, her hand instinctively reaching toward the photograph on the desk.

Marcus took a slow, menacing step forward, his uniform crisp and his expression devoid of empathy. He explained that Victor had spent years trying to protect them by keeping them away, but bringing them inside the mansion had just signed all their death warrants. Before Marcus could lunge forward or raise his radio to sound an internal alarm, the study window shattered inward in an explosion of glass and moonlight, and a dark, powerful figure tackled Marcus to the floor before he could even draw his weapon.
