Chapter 6 - The Locket’s Secret

""Don't move, Clara,"" Raymond commanded gently, his eyes never leaving Cynthia's weapon.
With shaking, rope-bound fingers, Clara managed to pop the clasp of the silver oval locket resting against her collarbone. Inside was not a romantic photograph, but a microdot storage chip—the kind used only in high-level corporate espionage.
""Nicholas Kane was my brother,"" Clara sobbed, the truth ripping out of her chest. ""He died in your father’s research facility five years ago during the chemical plant leak. Cynthia found me six months ago. She said if I married you and stole the encryption keys from your safe, she would give me the evidence proving your family was innocent of his death!""
Cynthia laughed—a shrill, venomous sound that bounced off the steel rafters. ""You see, Raymond? Your sweet little wife played you from day one. She never loved the cold, untouchable tycoon. She was a spy.""
