Chapter 11 - Crossfire at Midnight

Chaos erupted on the pier in a fraction of a second. The guards raised their weapons to shoot David, but a barrage of non-lethal stun rounds from the incoming naval interceptors slammed into them, sending both operatives plunging over the wet concrete ledge into the freezing surf. Cole lunged for the dropped tablet, but David closed the distance instantly, driving a vicious right hook into Cole's jaw that sent the director stumbling backward against the lighthouse railing.
“Where is she, Cole?!” David roared, pinning the older man against the cold iron bars as the wind whipped around them.
Cole spat blood onto the pavement, a twisted, triumphant grin spreading across his face.

“You’re... too late, Miller. The facility... is already being scrubbed. Project Janus... cannot be stopped by a dead man,” Cole wheezed.
Sirens blared from the mainland access road as federal authorities and local tactical units swarmed the perimeter, securing the area. But David didn't care about Cole anymore; the live feed on the dropped tablet had just updated with a new location tag—an active coordinates ping originating from an abandoned medical research station twenty miles inland, where the final stage of the transfer was happening right now.
