Chapter 3 - The Black Briefcase

“Who hired you to watch my children?” David’s voice was a low, dangerous growl, vibrating with the force of a desperate father pushed to the absolute brink. The man in the beige suit—Marcus Vance—gasped for air, his fingers clawing weakly at David’s wrist. Marcus’s eyes darted frantically toward the scattered documents and the photograph of Emily and baby Liam.
“I... I don't know names! I swear to God, I only take digital contracts!” Marcus choked out, coughing violently as David tightened his grip just a fraction.

“Try again,” David warned, his knuckles turning white.
Before Marcus could utter another word, a high-pitched whistle cut through the air. A bullet shattered the windshield of the parked SUV behind them, showering the pristine pavement with glittering shards of safety glass. Someone was positioned on the third-floor balcony of the resort, holding a high-powered rifle with a thermal scope. David instantly dropped Marcus, spinning around while scooping up the open briefcase and shoving the spilled photographs inside. He grabbed Emily’s hand, hoisted the baby carrier against his chest, and sprinted toward the cover of the dense tropical foliage lining the exit. As another round pierced the trunk of the car, David realized the trap was far larger than a simple stalking incident—someone wanted his entire family erased before nightfall.
