Chapter 15 - A New Dawn

The morning sun rose over the rugged Maine coastline, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of gold, amber, and soft pink. Inside the farmhouse kitchen, the smell of warm pancakes, melting butter, and fresh coffee drifted through the air, chasing away the last lingering chill of the past. Richard stood at the stove wearing a simple flannel shirt, flipping golden pancakes with an easy smile on his face as soft acoustic music played from the old radio on the counter. Footsteps pattered lightly down the wooden stairs, and a moment later, Lily bounded into the kitchen wearing a bright red sweater and sneakers that were already slightly scuffed from playing outside. She hopped onto one of the high stools at the kitchen island, resting her chin in her hands as she watched her father plate the breakfast. “Do we have any shoes to polish today, Daddy?” she asked with a playful, mischievous glint in her eye. Richard paused, turning around with a pancake spatula in hand, and smiled warmly as he walked over to boop her gently on the nose. “Not a single one, kiddo. The only thing you're allowed to polish in this house is your plate.” Lily giggled, grabbing her fork and diving into breakfast with an appetite that spoke of health, happiness, and total security. Richard walked over to the large picture window, looking out over the sparkling ocean where the waves rolled endlessly toward the shore. The storm was finally over, the shadows had dissolved into light, and as he watched his daughter laugh in the morning sun, he knew that everything was finally going to be okay."
