The following year was defined by purposeful restoration. Tyler returned to active duty, his badge returned with an official commendation from the Police Commissioner for maintaining ethical clarity and unwavering professionalism under extreme personal duress.
Together with Maya, Tyler worked alongside court-appointed trustees to liquidate Eleanor’s ostentatious personal assets. The sprawling luxury estate where the assault occurred was sold, and the capital was used to completely replenish the Vance Community Foundation.
Under Maya’s careful guidance as the newly appointed volunteer treasurer, the foundation established a new shelter and counseling center for domestic violence survivors, named in honor of the nurses and doctors who had saved Grace’s life.
On a warm Saturday morning, Tyler stood in uniform at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new community wing. Dozens of local families, community leaders, and fellow officers filled the courtyard.
Taking the podium, Tyler looked out at the crowd, his eyes landing on Maya, who held a healthy, giggling one-year-old Grace in her arms.
