Chapter 1 - The Shattered Gala

The grand chandelier of the Castellan estate cast a golden sheen over hundreds of elite socialites, but Clara stood in the center of the ballroom feeling nothing but cold fury. Victoria, dripping in scarlet silk and venom, still clutched the torn fragment of Clara’s champagne gown. Her hysterical shriek echoed across the high arches: "Search her! She stole the ring!" Whispers erupted like venomous serpents among the onlookers. Matriarch Eleanor Castellan sneered with vindictive satisfaction, eager to see the "orphan seamstress" humiliated before High Society.

Clara did not flinch. She did not cover her exposed lace bodice, nor did she shed a single tear. Her spine remained straight as iron, her blue eyes piercing directly into Victoria’s crazed face. Without a tremor, Clara lifted her bespoke titanium phone to her ear. She let the dial tone ring once, twice, before the line clicked open.

"Dad," Clara said, her voice cutting through the gasp-filled hall like an executioner’s blade. "It’s time."

Victoria let out a shrill laugh. "Who are you calling? Some homeless derelict to beg for mercy? You’re going to prison, you worthless thief!"

Before Clara could lower the phone, the heavy mahogany double doors swung inward with a thunderous bang. The murmur died instantly in every throat. At the threshold stood Arthur Vance—a mythical titan of global industry, a recluse whose signature could crash banks overnight. Flanked by a dozen stone-faced security operatives, his cold glare scanned the frozen room.

Arthur’s footsteps clicked deliberately against the checkered marble. Every eye was locked onto his towering, tailored silhouette. Eleanor stumbled back half a step, recognizing the silver-haired mogul immediately.

"Mr. Vance..." Eleanor stammered, smoothing her sequined gown in frantic deference. "To what do we owe the extraordinary honor?"

Arthur didn’t spare her a single glance. He marched straight past the groveling matriarch, past Victoria whose triumphant grin was already beginning to curdle into confusion, and stopped directly in front of the half-undressed girl.

The feared billionaire slowly removed his bespoke cashmere overcoat. In front of three hundred horrified aristocrats, Arthur Vance gently draped the coat over Clara’s exposed shoulders, his voice deep and trembling with suppressed violence.

"Who touched you, sweetheart?"

The entire ballroom ceased breathing. Clara raised her chin and pointed a single, steady finger at Victoria. But before another word could be uttered, the glass walls overlooking the private courtyard shattered under the glare of armed convoy headlights.
