Chapter 11 - The Harbor ProjectSpring returned to Maine. Evelyn partnered with Thomas to design a vocational community center in the nearby coastal town. The center aimed to train single parents in marketable trades and provide subsidized childcare.

Working side by side at Thomas’s drafting table, Evelyn found herself laughing again—not the polite, strained laugh of society galas, but an uninhibited, deep laugh from the belly.

"You have an incredible eye for structural balance," Thomas observed, tracing a blueprint line she had corrected.

"When you spend years living in a house built on sand," Evelyn said, looking at him, "you learn very quickly how load-bearing walls actually work."

Thomas held her gaze, his expression warm and patient. "Well, this foundation is solid granite. Nothing's going to collapse here."
