Chapter 12 - The Confession by the Shore

Following the gala, Julian felt an overwhelming need to escape the artificial lights of the city. He brought Clara and Theo back to the coastal sanctuary in Maine for midsummer.

One evening, after Theo had fallen into a deep, peaceful sleep in his crib, Julian invited Clara down to the rocky shore. The sun was setting across the ocean, painting the sky in deep shades of gold, violet, and crimson. The rhythmic crash of the waves against the granite cliffs was the only sound for miles.

They walked side by side along the edge of the water, the cool evening air refreshing against their faces.

""Clara,"" Julian began, his voice unusually hesitant.

She turned to him, noticing that the usually unflappable billionaire was nervously turning a small velvet box in his coat pocket.

""A year ago, I was an empty man,"" Julian confessed, stopping to face her directly. ""I thought my heart died when Eleanor passed away. I convinced myself that my only obligation was to build walls of money around Theo, to protect him from the world by becoming as ruthless as the world itself.""

He took both of her hands in his. Clara felt the steady, warm tremor in his grip.

""Then you walked into our lives,"" Julian whispered, his eyes shining with profound emotion. ""You showed me that real courage isn't built on power or pride. It's built on love. You protected my son with your own body. You taught me how to be a real father. And along the way... you brought my heart back from the dead.""

He dropped to one knee on the sand, pulling out a simple, breathtaking ring crowned with an unblemished sapphire.

""I don't offer you wealth or status, Clara, because I know you care nothing for those things. I offer you my life, my eternal fidelity, and a promise to build a home where you and Theo will never face fear again. Will you do me the greatest honor of my life, and become my wife?""

May you like

Tears streamed freely down Clara’s cheeks, catching the golden light of the setting sun. She dropped to her knees beside him on the sand, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck.

""Yes,"" she whispered against his shoulder. ""A thousand times, yes.""
