Chapter 8 - The Price of Arrogance

The verdict came down swiftly after three hours of jury deliberation: Guilty on all counts.
Victoria Sterling was sentenced to six years in a state correctional facility without possibility of early parole for the first three years, accompanied by mandatory psychiatric evaluation and a lifetime restraining order prohibiting contact with the Vance family.
Outside the courthouse, cameras flashed like a wall of lightning. Microphones were thrust into Julian’s face as he escorted Clara down the marble steps, flanked by security.
""Mr. Vance! What does this mean for Vance Logistics? Will you accept the Sterling family's formal apology?"" a reporter shouted.
Julian stopped at the base of the steps, turning to face the battery of cameras. The world expected a calculated corporate response. Instead, he spoke with absolute clarity.
""Today was not about corporate logistics or personal vindication,"" Julian announced, his voice carrying over the din of the crowd. ""Today was a reminder that wealth and social pedigree do not confer immunity from basic human decency. For too long, people of privilege have believed they can commodify, mistreat, and discard those who lack their power.""
He paused, glancing at Clara, who stood beside him with quiet grace.

""True nobility is not found in an inheritance or a portfolio,"" Julian said firmly. ""It is found in the willingness to protect the innocent, even when the cost is steep. I hope this judgment serves as a warning to anyone who believes their status places them above the law of compassion.""
Without taking further questions, Julian guided Clara into the awaiting car, leaving the media circus behind.
