Chapter 13 - The Fall of the Patriarch

With Elena in federal custody and the mercenary assault on Cliffside repelled, the Vance family launched a total retaliatory strike. Marcus mobilized his geopolitical connections, while Clara assumed direct executive control of Vance Global’s intelligence and acquisition divisions. Sitting in the central war room of Vance Tower, Clara coordinated with international maritime authorities and Interpol.

""Victor Morretti’s cargo transport was denied landing clearance in Brazil,"" Raymond reported, projecting a live satellite tracking map onto the massive video wall. ""We bought the private airfield where he scheduled his refueling stop. When the plane touched down in Panama twenty minutes ago, local military police surrounded the aircraft.""

Clara watched the live surveillance feed. Victor Morretti, once the terrifying kingpin of the city’s underworld, was dragged out of the jet in handcuffs, stripped of his luxury suit, and forced to kneel on the tarmac under the burning equatorial sun. Every single offshore asset bearing his signature had been frozen, auctioned, or absorbed into the Vance charitable foundation. He was penniless, disgraced, and facing multiple life sentences for maritime piracy, international racketeering, and murder.

Marcus entered the room, carrying a silver tray with two glasses of vintage port. He handed one to Clara, looking at the display with grim satisfaction. ""The Morretti syndicate is completely dismantled. In twenty-four hours, their empire has been reduced to dust.""

Clara took a sip, feeling no petty thrill of victory, only a profound sense of closure. She looked out the panoramic glass windows overlooking the glittering skyline of the city. Down below, life moved on normally, oblivious to the high-stakes war that had just ended.

Liam stood by the door, watching her with a quiet, respectful intensity. ""Mrs. Vance, the perimeter around your private residence has been completely cleared. You and Alexander are safe to return.""

Clara turned to look at Liam. Over the past chaotic weeks, the man had shielded her son with his own life, operating with an integrity and unwavering loyalty she had never seen in Julian. ""Thank you, Liam. But I am not returning to Cliffside as a recluse.""

Marcus raised an eyebrow. ""What are you planning, my dear?""

Clara smiled, a brilliant, radiant expression that signaled the dawn of an entirely new era. ""Julian and his associates thought I was a quiet trophy to be locked away and abused. Tomorrow, Vance Global holds its annual shareholder summit. I will publicly take my seat as Chief Executive Officer.""
