Chapter 2 - The Sins of the Past

Lorenzo stepped further into the light, his dark hair slicked back with ruthless precision, his tailored black suit framing a physique built for violence and intimidation. Tattoos peeked out from beneath his collar and wrapped around his knuckles, marking him not just as a wealthy elite, but as a man who had clawed his way to the top through blood and shadow. His dark eyes swept over the scene—Isabella holding the empty pitcher with a triumphant smirk, and Valeria, broken and weeping on the floor.
Valeria surged forward onto her knees, ignoring the sharp protest of her joints, and thrust the antique key toward him with trembling hands. ""Lorenzo, please!"" she gasped, her voice cracking with raw agony. ""The chapel crypt... she lied about everything! Isabella lied about the key, about the vault, about what happened to the archives!""

Before Valeria could finish, Isabella rushed forward, her golden gown rustling furiously as she thrust a manicured finger toward the maid. ""Lorenzo, don't listen to a single word she's saying!"" Isabella shrieked, panic flashing briefly beneath her theatrical outrage. ""She’s lost her mind! She stole that key from the restricted vault and tried to tamper with the family estate deeds! Look at her, she’s unstable—get her out of my sight before I have security throw her in the street!""
Lorenzo ignored Isabella’s shrieking entirely. His gaze locked onto the bronze object in Valeria's yellow-gloved hands. The intricate carvings on the bow of the key caught the light of the grand crystal chandelier—carvings that belonged to a vault sealed twenty years ago, a vault containing secrets that could dismantle the entire Sterling empire overnight. Without a word, Lorenzo reached out, his warm, calloused fingers wrapping firmly around the cold metal of the key, pulling it from her grasp as his jaw clenched so hard a muscle twitched violently in his cheek.
