Chapter 13 - The First Breath of Spring

A late February blizzard battered the estate windows when Clara’s contractions began. Julian refused to let emergency services battle the snowdrifts alone; he personally escorted the specialized medical team into the manor’s private clinic suite, never leaving Clara’s side for a single second.
Through the long hours of labor, Julian held Clara’s hand, letting her squeeze until his tattooed knuckles turned white. When her strength wavered, his forehead rested against hers.
“Breathe with me, Clara,” he whispered fiercely, his voice filled with an adoration that brought tears to the nurses' eyes. “You are the bravest person I know. Look at me. We are here together.”
At 4:18 AM, as dawn began to thaw the frost on the glass, a sharp, clear cry pierced the quiet room.
The doctor placed a beautiful, healthy baby girl into Clara’s exhausted arms. She had her father’s dark hair and her mother’s wide, luminous hazel eyes. Julian looked down at his daughter, and the man who had faced corporate giants without flinching broke down into silent, reverent tears. He kissed Clara’s sweaty forehead, his voice choked with emotion.
