Chapter 9 - The Financial Bloodbath

The rain beat relentlessly against the corrugated iron roof of Warehouse 14, a massive, abandoned shipyard terminal jutting out into the black waters of the harbor. Inside, bathed in the blue glow of bank monitors and tactical communications gear, Audrey stood over an improvised command desk.
Her jumpsuit was rolled up at the sleeves, her golden hair tied back with a piece of tactical cord. Beside her, Julian sat propped up against a shipping crate, an encrypted terminal balanced on his knees while a private medic changed the blood-soaked bandages on his shoulder.
""Michael’s liquidity relies on three shell corporations registered in the Cayman Islands,"" Audrey said, her fingers flying across the keyboard with the precision of a master pianist. ""All three are leveraged against the Sterling stock he expected to inherit today. Since the marriage certificate was never filed, those shares never legally vested.""
""His brokers don't know that yet,"" Julian pointed out, his voice tight with pain. ""They're still buying his margins based on the morning news reports that you were arrested for corporate sabotage.""
""Then let's inform the market,"" Audrey replied coldly.
She inserted the silver drive. The screen blossomed into thousands of lines of encrypted financial ledgers. With Julian’s corporate clearance codes, Audrey bypassed the private firewall of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
She drafted a single public declaration: a formal repudiation of Michael Cole's authority, backed by high-resolution surveillance photos of Michael and Sophia Hayes inside the bridal suite, followed by signed affidavits proving Michael had committed securities fraud before the market opened.
""Once I hit send, Michael isn't just ruined,"" Audrey said, looking at Julian. ""Your stepmother's firm will face a margin call of nearly four billion dollars. Vance Enterprises will take a massive collateral hit.""
Julian looked into her eyes, unblinking. ""Vance Enterprises was built on my grandfather's blood, Audrey. Evelyn and my father corrupted it into a cartel. Burn it to the ground. We will rebuild on the ashes.""
Audrey pressed the execution key.
Across the global financial networks, the reaction was instantaneous. Within forty seconds, the red ticker symbols representing Cole Holdings and Vance Maritime plummeted in a vertical free-fall. Millions of dollars vanished every second.
Audrey watched the numbers disintegrate with icy satisfaction. ""Margin call executed. He is completely bankrupt.""
Suddenly, the warehouse’s satellite feed cut out. The computer monitors went black.
High above them on the catwalks of the warehouse, the metallic clatter of heavy boots broke the silence. The industrial halogen lamps around the perimeter snapped on, blinding Audrey and Julian in harsh, white glare.

From the shadows of the catwalk, Michael Cole emerged, holding an automatic shotgun, his designer suit splattered with mud, his eyes wide and dilated with the hysterical madness of a ruined man.
""You took everything from me, Audrey!"" Michael screamed, his voice echoing through the vast steel rafters. ""Every single dollar!""
