Chapter 1 - The Broken Stance

The mall floor was slick with floor wax, echoing with laughter that felt heavier than fists. To the spectators, the tiny toddler standing in his miniature karate gi was an amusing diversion—a viral clip waiting to be posted online. But to little Leo, whose bare toes dug hard into the cold tiles, the world was a roaring arena. The security guard, Ron, wiped cold sweat from his neck, trying to gently coax the boy backward. ""Kid, get behind me,"" Ron muttered, his voice trembling beneath the synthetic sheen of his uniform. The ring of hooded men merely smirked, yet their eyes betrayed something darker than casual amusement.
The tallest man among them stepped forward, the amusement fading into a sharp, predatory sneer. He knelt down slowly to bring his face level with the boy’s tiny nose. ""Nice pajamas, little man,"" he sneered, reaching out a heavy, scarred finger toward Leo’s pristine black belt. The air in the concourse grew noticeably still. The toddler didn’t flinch. His breath remained slow, disciplined, exactly as his grandfather had drilled into him inside the windowless basement where the daylight never penetrated.

Without warning, the child shifted his horse stance, dropping his center of gravity by a mere inch. It was an impossible movement for a three-year-old—crisp, mechanical, and lethal. Before the man’s finger could graze the dyed fabric, Leo’s tiny palm struck outward, meeting the larger man's wrist with the loud, sharp crack of breaking bone. The man’s mocking smile turned instantly into a blood-curdling scream that echoed across the glass storefronts.
Chaos erupted. The remaining four men lunged forward, no longer laughing. But Leo did not retreat; he stepped directly into their charge, his tiny hands forming iron-hard tiger claws. As Ron reached for his radio in sheer terror, the lights overhead suddenly flickered and died. In the sudden gloom, a low, guttural voice resonated from the mall’s intercom speakers, speaking a language that made the toddler’s eyes widen in genuine terror.
