Chapter 12 - Flesh and Iron

The first soldier moved to tackle the child, but Leo vanished from the spot. The motion was so fast it seemed to bend the dim light in the warehouse. A split second later, the soldier was lifted clean off his feet as Leo drove a tiny palm strike straight into his ceramic chest plate. The armor shattered, the kinetic energy throwing a two-hundred-pound grown man into the brick wall twenty feet away.

The second operative opened fire, but Leo scrambled up the rusted conveyor machinery like a spider, moving on all fours with terrifying agility. He dropped from the rafters straight onto the soldier’s shoulders, wrapping his legs around the man’s neck in a vicious, mechanical chokehold. With a sickening twist, the soldier collapsed limp to the floorboards.

The leader stepped back, raising their heavy weapon, their visor glowing bright crimson. ""Failure,"" the leader muttered. ""Terminating prototype.""

Leo charged, ducking beneath the sweeping fire of heavy caliber rounds that chewed the floor to splinters. He closed the distance in a fraction of a second, but the leader was ready, swinging a reinforced metal tonfa directly at the child's head. The weapon connected with a bone-jarring thud, launching Leo across the warehouse floor like a broken ragdoll.
