THE TINY BELT OF ASH AND BLOOD / Chapter 15 / 15

Chapter 15 - The Final Lesson

The clash between grandfather and grandson was a blur of brutal, close-quarters combat. The Director matched the boy’s superhuman speed with decades of cold, ruthless experience, blocking palm strikes with his armored forearms and retaliating with bone-crushing sweeps. ""I built you, boy!"" the old man bellowed, his voice filled with terrifying pride. ""Every reflex, every tendon! You cannot defeat your creator!""

Leo took a vicious kick to the ribs that sent him skidding across the concrete, but he rebounded instantly, completely immune to the agonizing pain. He targeted the old man's exposed neck, leaping with outstretched claws. The Director drew a combat knife, thrusting it upward to impale the child mid-air.

Ron, summoning the absolute last ounce of life left in his broken body, threw the heavy steel briefcase into the Director’s legs. The impact caused the old man to stumble for a fraction of a second.

It was all the opening Leo needed.

The toddler slammed into his grandfather’s chest, driving the iron ring straight into the man's throat with terrifying momentum. The Director choked, stumbling backward toward the open edge of the harbor basin. He grabbed Leo’s wrist, his dying eyes wide with sudden, genuine horror as he realized his masterpiece had fully surpassed his control.

""Leo..."" the old man wheezed, blood spilling from his lips.

Leo did not blink. With a dead, unyielding stare, he twisted his small hand, breaking the old man's grip, and pushed. The Director plummeted thirty feet into the dark, churning water of the harbor, disappearing beneath the black waves without a splash.

Silence returned to the warehouse, broken only by the rhythmic drumming of rain against the roof. Leo stood at the edge of the pier, staring down into the darkness. Ron dragged himself over, his breath coming in ragged wheezes. ""Leo... it's over, buddy. It's done.""

The toddler slowly turned around. His eyes were entirely black once more, devoid of any warmth, any light, or any trace of the child who had cried for his grandfather. He stared at Ron not with gratitude, but with the cold, assessing gaze of a predator evaluating its next target. As sirens began to wail in the distance, cutting through the rainy night, Leo took a single, slow step toward Ron, raising his blood-stained hands into the deadly opening stance of the Iron Seed."
