Chapter 6 - A Hand Reached Out

Arthur’s visit changed Amy’s perspective. While she refused to accept disrespectful treatment, she began to see Eleanor not as a villain, but as a guarded, lonely woman trapped by her own rigid defenses.
The following weekend, Amy decided to take a small, brave step. Without telling Mark, she took Leo and drove to the Vance estate.
When Eleanor opened the grand front door, she was noticeably taken aback. She looked at Amy, then down at the baby in her arms, who was gurgling happily.
"Amy," Eleanor said, her voice faltering slightly. "What are you doing here?"
"I brought your grandson to see you," Amy said calmly, offering a warm, unforced smile. "And I thought we might have a quiet cup of tea—just the two of us."
Eleanor hesitated for a moment, her analytical eyes searching Amy’s face for any sign of hostility or deceit. Finding none, she stepped aside and opened the door wider. "Please, come in."
They sat in the sunroom, the very place where tension usually ran high. But this time, there were no caterers, no high-society friends, and no pressure to perform. Amy placed Leo on a soft blanket on the floor, allowing him to play with a wooden rattle.

"Mark hasn't called me," Eleanor murmured, staring down at her teacup.
"He loves you, Eleanor," Amy said gently. "But he needs to protect his family. And I need to know that my son will grow up in an environment of kindness, not judgment."
