Chapter 10 - Wings of the Vulture

The downdraft from the incoming helicopter blew sheets of rain through the shattered windows of the warehouse clerestory. Searchlights scanned the interior, blinding everyone in beams of pure white.
""Vance!"" a speaker boomed from the hovering aircraft. ""You are trespassing on Ravenwood International property. Lay down your arms and surrender the assets!""
Marcus wasn't dead. He had survived the encounter in the garage, bandaged and desperate to claim his prize before dawn broke over the city.
Clara cried out in a final, agonizing push, her fingernails digging deep into the palms of the trembling paramedic. A few seconds later, the sharp, fragile wail of a newborn baby cut through the roar of the helicopter blades.
""It's a boy,"" the medic whispered, his hands covered in blood as he wrapped the infant in a clean utility sheet.
Victor stood up slowly. He looked at the child, then down at Clara, whose eyes were fluttering shut from exhaustion. He took off his heavy overcoat and draped it over his daughter and the newborn child.

Outside, four precision sniper shots silenced the helicopter's tail rotor, sending the aircraft spinning out of control into the marshlands behind the facility.
