Chapter 5 - A Lethal Inheritance

The silence that followed the guards' disarmament was absolute, broken only by the rhythmic, heavy breathing of Titan the Cane Corso. Aiden stood alone in the center of the expansive white room, deserted by his men, stripped of his corporate empire, and emotionally cornered by the very woman he had tried to erase from existence five years ago.
He slowly pulled his hand out of his coat pocket, leaving the hidden firearm untouched. Raising his hands slightly in a gesture of tactical retreat, his eyes scanned the exits. The grand double doors leading to the private elevator were twenty feet away, but with Marcus guarding the direct line of sight and Titan standing alert near Elena, sprinting for it was a fool's errand.
“You’ve taken the money, you’ve taken the company, and you’ve stolen my security detail,” Aiden said, his voice dangerously controlled as he forced his mind to calculate a counter-strategy. “What do you want, Elena? My life? If you wanted me dead, Keller wouldn't be flying to Zurich and you wouldn't be standing here talking to me.”
Elena walked slowly back toward the center of the room, her high heels clicking with rhythmic precision. Titan moved beside her like a loyal shadow, his massive frame radiating latent power. She stopped a few feet away from Aiden, her gaze sweeping over his face, searching for any sign of genuine remorse or breaking pride. She found neither—only a cold, calculating fury that refused to extinguish.
“Death is too easy an exit for a man like you, Aiden,” Elena said softly, her voice dropping into a chilling register. “I don’t want your life. I want what you value most in this world: your absolute, unmitigated power. I want you to experience what it feels like to have everything—every dollar, every title, every ounce of control—ripped away until you are nothing more than a ghost wandering the streets, just like you tried to make me.”
Aiden’s jaw clenched so hard his teeth ached. “You think a court order or a few signed papers can erase who I am? I built this syndicate from the dirt with my bare hands. I can do it again.”
“With what?” Elena countered instantly, her eyes flashing with sharp intelligence. “Without your accounts, without your network, without your guards, and without even your own dog to protect you, you’re just a man in an expensive coat standing in an empty room.”
She gestured toward Titan with a subtle tilt of her head.
“Titan,” Elena commanded softly.
The massive black Cane Corso turned its head, looked directly at Aiden one last time, and then sat down neatly beside Elena, completely severing any remaining psychological link to its former master. The finality of the gesture hit Aiden harder than any physical blow. The beast he had raised, trained, and trusted had officially chosen a new world.

“Before sunrise, the federal marshals will be here with warrants for tax evasion, racketeering, and corporate conspiracy,” Elena said, turning her back on him as she walked toward the grand elevator doors. “Marcus, make sure Mr. Vance stays right here until they arrive. We wouldn't want him missing his own welcoming party.”
Marcus nodded stiffly, keeping his weapon raised as Elena stepped into the private elevator, the sleek glass doors sliding shut between them with a soft, final hum.
