Chapter 7 - The Hidden Frequency

The figure stepping out of the shadows of the hallway was not a federal marshal or a syndicate assassin, but a man Aiden knew better than anyone else alive: Viktor, his former mentor and the shadowy architect who had helped him build the Vance empire from the ground up fifteen years ago. Viktor looked older, his hair streaked heavily with silver, but his sharp, predatory eyes burned with the same cold intensity that had once taught Aiden how to rule the underworld.

Viktor carried a heavy steel briefcase, placing it down on the glass coffee table with a dull, echoing thud. He didn’t look at Marcus or the other guards; his gaze locked entirely onto Aiden, holding a mix of clinical detachment and profound disappointment.

“You always were too impatient, Aiden,” Viktor said, his voice deep and raspy as he unlatched the briefcase. “You thought building an empire meant burning down everything in your path until nothing was left to challenge you. But you failed to realize that ashes don’t remain quiet forever.”

Aiden stared at his former mentor, his mind struggling to process how Viktor—the man who had personally verified Elena’s death certificate five years ago—was now standing here as the master of ceremonies for his destruction.

“You,” Aiden whispered, the word laced with a mixture of betrayal and sudden clarity. “You were the one who signed off on the yacht manifest. You helped her fake her death.”

Viktor let out a dry, humorless chuckle. He popped open the latches of the steel case, revealing rows of encrypted data drives and a small, glowing green tactical console.

“I didn't help her fake anything, Aiden. I simply recognized a sinking ship before you did,” Viktor replied smoothly, pulling out a sleek digital tablet. He tapped the screen twice, and the massive wall-mounted security monitors across the penthouse flickered to life. Instead of security feeds, they displayed live financial wire transfers flowing out of Aiden’s private Swiss accounts into a centralized global trust bearing Elena’s name. “Elena didn’t come back to reclaim what was hers. She came back to collect what you borrowed.”

Aiden took a step forward, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. “That money… those accounts represent decades of blood, sweat, and absolute control. You can’t just wipe it out with a keystroke.”

“Watch me,” Viktor said calmly. He pressed a final button on the console.

Across the screen, a red progress bar flashed rapidly from zero to one hundred percent, accompanied by a soft, melodic chime. A notification popped up in bold red lettering: Account Liquidation Complete. Zero Balance.

Aiden stood motionless, the air rushing out of his lungs. Every single cent, every offshore asset, every hidden dollar he had accumulated over a lifetime of ruthless ambition had just vanished into the digital ether, leaving him legally and financially bankrupt.

Before Aiden could lunge toward the table, Viktor pressed another button on the console, and a hidden wall panel beside the elevator slid open with a heavy pneumatic hiss, revealing a dark, cavernous panic room that Aiden hadn't used in years.

“Step inside, Aiden,” Viktor said quietly, his eyes hardening into flint. “Your new life is waiting.”
