Chapter 11 - The Hidden Leverage

Julian’s hand emerged from his jacket pocket holding not a weapon, but a small, old-fashioned silver key. He tossed it casually across the room, the metal key clattering against the glass-strewn rug right at the tactical operative’s boots.

""The vault contains nothing but worthless paper and corporate collateral,"" Julian said with chilling composure. ""If you want the real leverage—the offshore accounts that fund every black-ops syndicate in this city—it's tied to a biometric dead-man's switch on my personal terminal.""

The operative looked down at the key, then back up at Julian, hesitation flickering in his posture. ""You're bluffing, Vance. No one ties their entire fortune to a single biological trigger.""

""Try me,"" Julian challenged, stepping closer to the desk and placing his palm flat against the glass screen of his terminal. A red laser scanned his palm, and a deep, mechanical hum vibrated through the floorboards. ""Press the wrong button on that wall vault, and every offshore account freezes permanently, locking every criminal syndicate out of their capital within sixty seconds.""

Elena watched in sheer disbelief. Julian wasn't just a ruthless businessman; he was playing a high-stakes game of chicken with professional killers, using his own wealth as both a shield and a detonator.

Thomas kept his gun trained on the operative, sweat beading on his forehead. ""Don't listen to him, he's buying time for his private security detail to breach the stairwell!""

Suddenly, the heavy metal security shutters over the penthouse elevator doors began to rattle violently as someone started cutting through them from the outside with a plasma torch.
