Chapter 6 - The Glass Monolith

The lobby of Vance Global Enterprises was a cathedral of corporate power—floors of polished white marble, soaring ceilings of reinforced glass, and a towering reception desk carved from a single slab of black obsidian. Elena walked through the revolving doors hand-in-hand with Lily, their footsteps echoing softly against the expansive floor. The security guards at the turnstiles immediately recognized her, their hands hovering over their security badges as if unsure whether to salute the estranged wife of the CEO or tackle an intruder.

""Mrs. Vance, you cannot be here without an appointment,"" the lead receptionist said, standing up behind the obsidian desk with a stiff, rehearsed smile that didn't reach her eyes.

""Save the corporate hospitality,"" Elena said, her voice cutting through the ambient hum of the lobby with icy precision. ""Tell Julian his wife is here to collect what belongs to her, and she has a front-row seat to watch his house of cards collapse.""

Before the receptionist could panic into her desk intercom, the private elevator chime chimed with a crisp, pleasant ding. The polished brass doors slid open smoothly, revealing Julian standing alone in the spacious car. He wore a charcoal-gray tailored suit, devoid of his usual flashy gold accents, looking every bit the ruthless corporate predator he truly was.

Julian looked at Elena and Lily, his gaze lingering on the child for a long, silent moment. A slow, dangerous smile crept across his lips.

""Welcome home, Elena,"" Julian said softly, stepping forward to block the lobby exit. ""I was wondering when you'd finally walk willingly into the lion's den.""
