Chapter 10 - Shadows Strike

A sharp crack echoed in the room, but it was not Victoria’s gun that fired.

Mateo had palmed a small throwing blade from his sleeve, striking the wrist of the first gunman. The man screamed, dropping his rifle, while Mateo lunged forward with devastating speed. He tackled the second guard to the floor, disarming him with bone-snapping precision.

Victoria fired frantically, the suppressed shot burying itself into the wooden doorframe inches from Elena's face. Elena didn't hesitate. Grabbing a heavy bronze lamp from the bedside table, she hurled it with all her strength, striking Victoria squarely in the chest.

Victoria stumbled backward into the hallway, gasping for breath as Mateo disarmed her with a ruthless strike across her forearm. The weapon clattered to the floor.

Outside the room, alarm bells began to toll across the compound. Mateo pulled Victoria up by her collar, his eyes black with rage. ""You thought my house was yours?"" he whispered coldly.

Down the hallway, heavy footsteps approached—more mercenaries loyal to Victoria's family were advancing.
