Chapter 7 - The Fortress in the Alps

The vehicle wound its way up the mountain roads toward an isolated stone estate perched above Lake Geneva. High stone walls, thermal cameras, and armed guards gave the property the appearance of a modern medieval fortress.
Elena was ushered into a sprawling, firelit suite on the third floor. Leo had finally drifted to sleep, exhausted from the harrowing escape. Elena laid him in the carved crib beside the bed, standing guard like a mother wolf.
The door opened softly, and Mateo stepped inside. He had changed into a clean black shirt, the top buttons undone to reveal the intricate ink climbing his neck. He looked less like an untouchable billionaire and more like a weary warrior carrying the weight of an empire.
