By dawn, the boat drifted into a secluded boathouse on the French side of the lake, an off-grid property known only to Mateo’s most trusted circle.
Mateo’s loyal second-in-command, Marcus, was waiting with medical supplies and fresh clothing. Within hours, Mateo's wound was stitched, the estate had been secured, and news arrived from Switzerland: Victoria's father had been arrested by international authorities following leaked evidence Clara had preserved before her death.
In the quiet sunlit living room of the French villa, Elena stood by the window, rocking Leo gently. The morning sun bathed them in gold. The nightmare was finally over.
Mateo walked into the room, moving stiffly but with newfound clarity. He stopped a few feet away, watching them. For the first time in his life, his cold, calculating world felt warm.
