Chapter 4 - Descent into Shadows

The private jet breached the cloud cover over the Swiss Alps, descending toward a private airfield surrounded by pine forests. The luxury of the cabin faded into cold reality as armed operatives positioned themselves along the tarmac below.
""Mr. Vance, we have unconfirmed vehicles tracking our perimeter,"" the lead bodyguard reported through his earpiece, approaching Mateo.
Victoria stood abruptly, smoothing her red gown. ""We need to move immediately upon landing. Mateo, leave the girl.""
Mateo glanced down at Elena, who was gently burping the baby. The infant cooed softly, small fingers wrapped around Elena’s index finger. Mateo felt an unfamiliar surge of protectiveness, not just for his son, but for the quiet woman who had given his child peace for the first time since birth.
""She stays with Leo,"" Mateo commanded coldly.
