Mateo’s posture shifted instantly into lethal readiness. ""Victoria. Lower the weapon.""
""I told you she was a distraction, Mateo,"" Victoria sneered, gesturing toward Elena. ""My father and I built half of your network. We weren't going to let a bastard child and a dead courier’s secret ruin the merger.""
Elena instinctively moved between the crib and Victoria's line of sight, shielding the infant. The realization hit Mateo like a cold shock: Clara had indeed discovered the truth. Victoria was the traitor.
""You tipped off the ambush at the airfield,"" Mateo said, his voice deadly calm, calculating the distance between himself and Victoria’s gunmen.
