Chapter 5 - Descent Into the Storm

The private jet began its rapid descent, cutting sharply through the dense, gray cloud cover that hung heavily over the coastal mountains. Below them, the clandestine runway was nothing more than a thin strip of cracked concrete illuminated by faint, flickering emergency lights. The turbulence rocked the cabin violently, but Hamilton remained completely unshaken, his arm firmly supporting Elena so she wouldn't lose her balance.
Marcus checked the slide of his sidearm, the metallic click echoing sharply in the confined space. “Boss, once those landing gear touch down, we’ll have less than sixty seconds before they surround the fuselage. Vane’s men won’t hesitate to shoot through the hull.”

“Let them try,” Hamilton replied coldly, setting his empty whiskey glass down on the polished wooden table. He gently lifted Elena’s head, placing a rolled-up jacket beneath it to keep her comfortable before standing up to his full, imposing height.
The landing gear locked into place with a heavy mechanical thump. The tires shrieked as they hit the wet tarmac, sending a cloud of white smoke billowing past the windows. Outside, the headlights of the waiting vehicles suddenly flashed on, blindingly bright and closing in fast.
