Chapter 6 - The Architect's Will

""Stay here,"" Elena commanded. ""No matter what sounds you hear from the house above, do not touch the emergency override.""
""Mom, don't leave,"" Maya whispered, tears finally breaking past her disciplined facade.
Elena knelt before her daughter, taking the little girl’s hands into her own. Her skin was warm, a sharp contrast to the cold tactical gear she wore. ""Remember what I taught you about the game of chess, Maya?""
""The queen is the most dangerous piece,"" Maya recited quietly, sniffling.
""Why?"" Elena pressed gently.
""Because she has the freedom to move in every direction.""
""Exactly,"" Elena said, kissing Maya’s forehead. ""The men outside think they’ve cornered a queen. They don't realize they've stepped onto my board.""
Elena rose and walked back to the security console. She slipped a thumb drive into the mainframe terminal. The screen flickered green, scrolling through thousands of encrypted account ledgers, banking transfers, and offshore holdings spanning thirty-four sovereign nations. At the bottom of the display, a single prompt blinked in stark red: EXECUTE PROTOCOL LAZARUS?
Elena hovered her hand over the keyboard. This was the final fail-safe Victor had created before he vanished. Activating it would not just destroy the attackers; it would broadcast every illicit transaction, every compromised politician, and every corrupt corporate conglomerate associated with Julian and Nolan directly to international intelligence agencies. It would burn the syndicate to ash—and make her family the most hunted people on Earth.
""Elena,"" Marcus’s voice crackled through the comms channel. ""They’re at the front steps. They’ve brought thermite breaching charges. The foyer won't hold more than two minutes.""
Elena took a breath, her resolve hardening like tempered glass. She did not press the key. Instead, she typed a seven-digit secondary override.
""Let them inside,"" Elena said into her mic.
May you like
""Say again?"" Marcus replied, genuine shock bleeding through his voice.
""Open the grand foyer doors,"" Elena instructed with ice in her tone. ""Let them walk all the way into the great hall. I want Nolan and Julian to see who actually signed their death warrants.""
