Chapter 15 - The New Horizon

One year after walking out of the marble foyer, Nora stood on the deck of a ferry crossing the bay toward the open ocean. The wind tossed her hair, but she didn't shield her face; she welcomed the sting of the sea salt and the boundless horizon expanding before her.

Her life had become entirely her own. The Vandermeer Institute had successfully launched its first clinical trial for a rare pediatric autoimmune condition, fulfilling her father's lifelong ambition. Elena had partnered with the foundation, running logistics with an efficiency that silenced every doubter.

Her phone chimed in her coat pocket. It was a news alert: Julian Sterling's appeal formally denied by Fourth Circuit Court.

Nora stared at the notification for a second, feeling nothing—no vindication, no bitterness, no lingering resentment. The man who had once loomed so large over her life, whose approval she had spent years desperately seeking, was now nothing more than an irrelevant line in a legal reporter.
