Chapter 1 - The Crimson Stain on White Marble

The pristine white marble of the luxury master bathroom felt freezing against Clara’s bruised skin. Her breath came in shallow, shuddering gasps as she clutched her torn maid's uniform, trying desperately to cover the purple and black marks staining her shoulders and arms. On the polished floor beside her, a white towel soaked up a vivid pool of crimson from a jagged cut on her lower leg. The sharp, metallic scent of fresh blood hung heavily in the air, mixing with the expensive floral fragrance of the mansion. Above her, standing in the arched doorway of the walk-in closet, was Alexander Vance—her employer, a billionaire whose cold, commanding presence usually struck fear into everyone he encountered. But right now, his piercing gaze wasn't filled with corporate ruthlessness; it was locked entirely on her trembling form.

Alexander took a slow, heavy step forward, his tailored black suit shifting with a quiet rustle. His dark hair fell slightly across his forehead, shadowing eyes that scanned the gruesome scene before him. The silence in the sprawling suite was suffocating, broken only by the ragged sound of Clara’s weeping.

""What happened to you?"" Alexander asked, his voice low, vibrating with a suppressed intensity that demanded an answer.

Clara flinched, pulling her knees tighter against her chest. Tears streamed down her pale cheeks, blurring her vision as she looked up at him with sheer desperation. ""Nothing, sir. I’m fine,"" she whispered, her voice cracking under the weight of her terror.

Alexander didn't buy the lie for a second. His gaze dropped to her bleeding leg, then back to her tear-streaked face. ""You’re bleeding,"" he stated flatly, his tone dropping an octave as he closed the distance between them, his polished black shoes stopping just inches from her bare feet.

Panic surged through Clara. She raised a shaking hand, pressing it against her mouth to stifle a sob. ""Please… don't ask,"" she begged, her voice barely audible over the hum of the mansion's ventilation system.

Alexander knelt down, ignoring the pristine fabric of his designer trousers as they touched the marble floor. He looked directly into her terrified eyes, his jaw tightening. ""Who did this?""

Clara squeezed her eyes shut, a fresh wave of tears spilling over her lashes as the horrifying memory rushed back. ""My ex-husband,"" she choked out.

Alexander’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits, the air around him turning frigid. He stared at her, unwilling to let the matter drop. ""What’s his name?""

Clara opened her eyes, looking up into the face of the most powerful man in the city, knowing that uttering those three syllables would change her life forever. With a trembling breath, she whispered the name that had haunted her nightmares: ""Derek Loss.""

Alexander froze, the name echoing in the cavernous bathroom like a death sentence. But before he could demand answers, a sudden, heavy crash echoed from the grand hallway downstairs, shattering the silence of the estate.
