Chapter 1 - The Broken Silence

The silence inside the grand ballroom was heavier than the crystal chandeliers hanging overhead. A moment ago, the room had been filled with gentle classical music, clinking champagne flutes, and low conversations of the city's highest society. Now, only the harsh sound of breathing remained.

Elena remained kneeling on the cold marble floor. The black silk of her dress, ruined and dusty, contrasted sharply with the polished stone. Her back, exposed by the low cut of her gown, bore deep red claw-like scratches. On her left cheek, a fresh cut slowly dripped a tiny bead of crimson. The guests—her husband’s wealthy family, high-profile investors, and former friends—stood paralyzed in a wide circle.

Julian dropped to his knees in front of her. His hands trembled as he reached out, but his fingers hesitated, hovering an inch away from her skin. His flawless dark tuxedo, tailored to perfection, seemed almost absurd against the brutal reality before him. For months, he had dismissed her quiet warnings, attributing her growing sadness to stress or tiredness.

"Julian," Elena said, her voice small yet carrying clearly across the room. "I tried to tell you. I tried every single day."

"I... I didn't know," Julian whispered, his eyes wide with horror as the reality crushed him.

The crowd began to rustle. Someone lowered a smartphone; another whispered behind a gloved hand. Elena slowly stood up, refusing Julian’s outstretched hand. She did not cry. Her dignity was the only thing she had left, and tonight, she reclaimed it.
