Chapter 14 - Restoring the Bond
As the seasons turned, Julian and Elena rebuilt their marriage on a foundation of honesty and mutual respect. They chose to live in a modest stone cottage at the edge of the estate, reserving the main house entirely for public and historical use.
Their life together became simpler and far more meaningful. Evenings were spent reading by the fireplace, hosting small dinners with close friends, or working on community projects with Marcus.
One evening, while looking through old photographs in their living room, Julian found a photo from the night of the gala. He looked at it for a long moment before setting it aside.
"Does it hurt to see that?" Elena asked, sitting beside him.
"It reminds me of who I used to be," Julian said softly. "And it reminds me of the moment you saved us both by refusing to stay silent."
