Chapter 10 - The Path of Personal Healing
While the public victory was significant, Elena’s internal journey required continuous care. True healing was not an overnight event; it came in quiet, daily choices to trust again and to set boundaries.
She attended therapy regularly, processing the terror of being dismissed when she was at her most vulnerable. Julian attended sessions with her, learning how to be an active listener and a reliable partner. He realized that love was not about protecting someone from uncomfortable truths, but standing beside them within those truths.
During an evening walk along the river near their new cottage, Julian stopped and turned to Elena.
"I used to think my job was to keep everything perfect," Julian confessed. "I thought if there were no flaws, nothing could hurt us. I was so wrong."
"Perfection is just another word for control, Julian," Elena said gently. "Life is messy, but it’s real. And real is all I ever wanted."
Julian took her hand, his thumb tracing her knuckles. "Thank you for not giving up on me, even when I failed you."
