Chapter 4 - The Archive of Forgotten Whispers

Inside the small living room, Marcus spread old newspaper clippings and handwritten journals across the wooden table. Julian sat silently, forced to look at documents he had ignored his entire life.

Decades ago, the land belonged to a modest homestead owned by a family of botanists. When Julian’s grandfather bought the property to build the Vance estate, he forcefully evicted the family and demolished their sanctuary. Shortly after, strange occurrences were recorded in local archives: servants quitting without notice, unexplained injuries, and a pervasive atmosphere of melancholy.

"Our family buried the truth under money and influence," Marcus explained. "Grandfather labeled anyone who spoke out as unstable. It became a family tradition to protect the brand at all costs."

Elena looked at a photograph of a young woman from 1984 whose arms bore marks identical to her own. "She wasn't an evil spirit," Elena realized softly. "She was a warning."

Julian buried his face in his hands. The realization that his family’s prosperity was built on silencing the vulnerable washed over him. "What have we done?" he murmured softly.

"You didn't build the foundation, Julian," Elena said gently, placing a hand near his. "But you chose not to see. Now you have to decide if you want to keep hiding."
